Telangana HC Orders Govt to Establish Consumer Commissions in New Districts
Imagine you buy something and it's not what you expected, or a service isn't good.
Usually, there's a special place, like a consumer forum, where you can go to solve the problem.
In the state of Telangana, they made many new districts, but didn't set up these special places in 23 of them.
The High Court said this is very important and told the government they need to decide quickly about setting up these forums.
The government asked for more time, and the court agreed, but they must decide within four weeks and tell the court what they've done by December 22.
They also need to appoint a president for the main consumer commission soon.
The Telangana High Court has ordered the state government to establish consumer dispute redressal commissions in 23 newly formed districts.
A compliance report is to be submitted by December 22, with the court emphasizing the urgency of the matter.
The directive came during the hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by law student Aakula Sampath Kumar.
The PIL sought the creation of these commissions as per the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, along with necessary staffing and infrastructure.
