Vijay Amritraj’s Tennis Legacy Reaches the Hall of Fame

Vijay Amritraj was a tennis player from India who became very successful despite childhood breathing problems.

His mother encouraged him to play tennis as exercise.

He won hundreds of matches and defeated famous players such as Jimmy Connors, Rod Laver, and John McEnroe.

In 1974, he helped India reach the Davis Cup final.

India refused to play apartheid-era South Africa after being offered special racial status for the trip.

Amritraj also acted alongside Roger Moore in the James Bond movie Octopussy.

He later worked in television, business, and charity.

In 2024, he entered the International Tennis Hall of Fame as the first Asian man inducted there.

His story also includes work with the United Nations and support for children’s medical care in India.
