Bombay HC Dismisses PIL to Name Navi Mumbai Airport After D B Patil
Imagine people wanted to name a new airport after a respected leader named D B Patil.
They filed a case in a big court, asking the court to tell the government to make it happen.
But the judges said, 'We can't tell the government what to do about naming things.'
They explained that the state government's idea is just an idea, not a final decision, and the court can't force the main aviation group to name the airport.
So, the request to the court was turned down.
The Bombay High Court dismissed a PIL seeking to name Navi Mumbai airport after D B Patil.
The court stated it does not have the power to direct the Ministry of Civil Aviation to make a naming decision.
The Maharashtra Government had previously proposed naming the airport 'Loknete D B Patil Navi Mumbai International Airport'.
The PIL was filed by Prakashjot Samajik Sanstha seeking the naming to 'avoid future unrest'.
The High Court viewed the state government's proposal as merely an 'expression of intention'.
