India's WPI Inflation Hits 27-Month Low in October
Imagine you're selling things in bulk, not to individual people.
In October, the prices for these bulk sales in India went down a lot, reaching the lowest point in over two years.
This happened because the cost of food, like vegetables and onions, dropped significantly.
The prices of fuel and some factory-made items also decreased.
This 'deflation,' which means prices are falling, is partly because the government lowered taxes on many common items.
Experts predict this trend of falling prices might continue for a bit longer, especially because of how prices were last year.
So, overall, the cost for businesses buying and selling large quantities of goods has gone down.
Wholesale price inflation in India dropped to -1.21% in October, a 27-month low.
Deflation in food articles was 8.31% in October, with significant price drops in vegetables, pulses, onions, and potatoes.
Inflation for manufactured products eased to 1.54% in October.
Fuel and power prices saw deflation of 2.55% in October, marking the seventh consecutive month of decline.
Lower GST rates on mass consumption items, effective September 22, are cited as a factor in the falling WPI inflation.
