India Eases Defence Export Rules to Expand Global Market

India has changed its defence export rules to make selling military products abroad easier.

Companies will face fewer repeated permission processes.

For many non-dangerous defence items, they will not need to go through stakeholder consultation before exporting.

Consultation is also no longer required for products being shown at international tenders and exhibitions.

An Open General Export Licence, or OGEL, allows approved companies to export certain items in multiple shipments.

The licence will now last three years instead of two.

It can cover more countries and more types of products, although sensitive countries and sanctioned destinations remain restricted.

The government says these changes will help Indian companies, especially smaller manufacturers, compete internationally while protecting national security.
