Goa CM: NIO Mhadei Report Has No Impact on State or Court
Imagine a river called Mhadei that two states, Goa and Karnataka, both want to use.
Someone made a report about how to share the water.
The leader of Goa, Pramod Sawant, said the report doesn't matter to his state or a big court case about the river.
The report suggested building a water storage area in Karnataka instead of Goa because it would be easier.
Goa doesn't want to build storage because it could flood forests and displace people.
The report also said that both states need the water.
But, the Chief Minister said they don't have to listen to the report.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stated the NIO report on the Mhadei river has no binding effect on the state government.
Sawant clarified the report won't impact the ongoing Supreme Court case.
The CM said the state government didn't request the NIO report.
The study suggested shifting water storage from Goa to Karnataka for a mutually beneficial solution.
Goa opposes storage due to potential environmental and displacement concerns.
