Chain-Snatching Accused Assaults Police Constable Inside Panvel Court Premises
A man in India was arrested by police for stealing gold chains from people.
While he was at the court for a hearing, some of his family members came to see him.
The police said he could not talk to them because of safety rules.
This made the man very angry.
He started shouting bad words at the police officers.
When a police officer named Manoj Jadhav tried to calm him down, the man hit and kicked him.
Other police officers quickly stopped him.
The judge let him go free in the chain theft case, but the police opened a new case against him for hurting an officer.
It is against the law to hurt police officers while they are doing their job.
Sadik Akhtar Mohammad Khan (37), a Bhiwandi resident, allegedly assaulted a police constable inside the Panvel court premises on August 5.
Khan was arrested by Khandeshwar Police last week in a chain-snatching case and was brought to the new Panvel court for a remand hearing after his police custody expired.
The altercation began after police refused his request to meet relatives gathered outside the court, citing security concerns.
Khan allegedly abused senior police officers and punched and kicked Police Constable Manoj Jadhav before other policemen overpowered him.
The court granted him bail in the chain-snatching case, but Panvel City Police registered a fresh FIR for assaulting a public servant and obstructing government duty.
