SC Warns Against Writing to Husband's Employer in Divorce Cases

The Supreme Court of India has warned women against writing to their husbands' employers during divorce proceedings.

The court stated that such actions can lead to the husband losing his job, which in turn can affect maintenance claims.

The court was hearing a case where a woman had written to her husband's employer, an Air Force officer, alleging that he was engaged in an independent business in violation of service terms.

The court noted that while seeking divorce is one thing, causing the loss of a spouse's livelihood is worse.

The court has referred the matter to the Supreme Court Mediation Centre to explore the possibility of a settlement.
