UN rights chief says Iran executed 56 since March

A big organization called the United Nations watches over human rights around the world.

Its human rights leader, Volker Tuerk, shared some very sad news about the country of Iran.

He said at least 56 people have been executed, which means put to death by the government.

This has happened since March 19.

Many of these people were connected to protests that happened at the start of the year.

The UN leader thinks the government is doing this to scare people and stop them from disagreeing.

He also said more than 100 other people may be executed soon.

He asked Iran to stop the executions and to end the death penalty.

Iran's government says its actions follow the law and are needed to keep the country safe.
