World Sanskrit Day Celebrates Language, Heritage, and Ancient Wisdom

World Sanskrit Day celebrates the Sanskrit language and its long history.

It takes place on the full moon during the Hindu month of Shravana.

Sanskrit has been used for religious writings, literature, and learning.

Maharshi Panini gave the language an organized system many centuries ago.

His work included eight chapters and about 4,000 short rules.

Many important Indian texts, such as the Vedas and the Bhagavad Gita, were written in Sanskrit.

The language is still spoken in places such as Mattur in Karnataka.

People celebrate the day to help preserve Sanskrit and teach its importance to future generations.
