Bima Gram API to Enhance Rural Insurance Verification, Says IAC-Life
Imagine trying to know if someone lives in a village in India just by their house number.
It's hard because house numbers aren't always clear!
The Indian government created a new tool called the Bima Gram API.
This tool helps insurance companies know for sure if a person is in a rural village when they buy insurance.
It works by connecting the mailman's zip codes (PIN codes) to the village's official name.
Before, insurance companies had to guess or do a lot of extra work to check.
Now, they can quickly and easily see where people live.
This helps them make sure they are providing insurance to everyone in the villages, as they are supposed to.
It also helps the government understand how many people in villages have insurance.
This new tool is like a helpful map for insurance companies in rural areas.
The Bima Gram API, launched by IRDAI, aims to improve rural insurance reporting and monitoring.
It links postal PIN codes with Local Government Directory codes to identify Gram Panchayats, solving verification issues for insurers.
Insurers often struggle to verify rural policy origins as identity documents may not specify the Gram Panchayat.
Developed collaboratively, the API enables real-time, digitally verified location data for insurance policyholders in rural areas.
IAC-Life believes the API can streamline reporting, improve penetration assessments, and aid future policy planning.
