Government Launches Subsidized Onion Sales in Multiple Cities

Government Launches Subsidized Onion Sales in Multiple Cities

The government is selling onions at a reduced price of ₹24 per kg in Delhi, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad to help consumers afford them.

The initiative is led by Union Food Minister Pralhad Joshi and uses outlets and mobile vans from agencies like NAFED, NCCF, and Kendriya Bhandar.

The goal is to reduce food inflation and keep prices stable, especially with the upcoming festive season.

The onions come from a 3 lakh tonne buffer stock that was purchased at ₹15 per kg.

The subsidized sales will extend to other cities like Chennai, Guwahati, and Kolkata.

This action is part of the government's strategy to manage food costs.
