Gariahat traffic slowed by water pipeline repair
A big hole was dug on a road in Kolkata to fix a leak in a very important water pipe.
This pipe gives water to many places, like Ballygunge and a pumping station in Kasba.
The repair work is happening over the weekend because that's when there's less water in the pipe.
The road is very busy during school days, but since most schools are closed for vacation, the repair work won't cause too much trouble.
The work will be done before the schools open again on Monday.
A 12x12ft portion of the road at Ballygunge Phari was dug open to repair a leaking main water pipeline.
The pipeline supplies potable water to Ballygunge and replenishes a booster pumping station in Kasba.
The repair work is scheduled to be completed by Sunday, with only 3.5 hours each day to fix the leak.
Two lanes of the road have been blocked, causing traffic to slow down, but a single file of vehicles can pass.
The repair work is being done over the weekend to avoid disrupting the water supply and to minimize traffic congestion when schools reopen on Monday.
