Hyderabad Hotels Divert Food Waste, Prompting MMC Biogas Warning

Hyderabad Hotels Divert Food Waste, Prompting MMC Biogas Warning

Some hotels in Hyderabad were sending leftover food to cattle sheds instead of processing it properly.

Officials from the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation discovered this during inspections.

At one dairy, buffaloes were eating a lot of discarded food and very little regular fodder.

The officials warned the dairy operator to stop.

Veterinarians said unsuitable food can make cattle sick and cause dangerous bloating.

Plastic can also accidentally be mixed with food and end up inside animals’ stomachs.

The corporation wants large food-waste producers to use biogas systems.

These systems can reduce waste and create material that can be used as compost or manure.
