India's Natural Gas Import Bill Drops in Recent Months
India spent less money on natural gas imports in the first few months of this year compared to last year.
They bought less gas overall.
At the same time, India is not producing enough gas within the country.
This means they have to buy a lot from other countries.
Even though they are trying to make their own gas production better, experts think they will still need to import about half of the gas they use.
India's natural gas import bill decreased by 9.4% to $4.8 billion between April and July of FY26.
LNG import volumes fell by 12.4% during the same period, totaling 11,534 mmscm.
Domestic natural gas consumption decreased by 7.8% to 23,134 mmscm in April-July FY26.
Domestic natural gas production also declined, dropping 3% to 11,754 mmscm during the same period.
Experts predict India's dependence on LNG imports will stay high, at 52% of consumption, despite government efforts.
