Karnataka Ministers, MLAs Fail to Submit Asset Details to Lokayukta
Imagine a rule that says all important people in the government, like ministers and lawmakers, must tell everyone how much money and property they own each year.
This helps make sure they are being honest.
In Karnataka, some ministers and many lawmakers missed the deadline to share this information.
Because they didn't follow the rule, the Lokayukta, which is like a watchdog, has published their names.
If they still don't share their financial details, the Lokayukta can tell the state's assembly about it.
Some people also filed their information late.
Five ministers and 95 other elected representatives in Karnataka have failed to submit their annual asset and liability details to the Lokayukta by the June 30, 2025 deadline.
The list of defaulters includes the Chief Minister's financial advisor and a former minister accused of illegal mining.
The Karnataka Lokayukta has stated that failure to comply can result in the Lokayukta submitting a report to the State Assembly.
The Lokayukta also has the power to publish the names of defaulting public servants in newspapers if they do not comply within two months of a report submission.
Some officials, including a minister, filed their asset details after the initial deadline.
