Delhi Police Files Case for Stray Dog's Death
A man in Delhi was reported to the police for beating a stray dog with a stick.
The dog died six days later from its injuries.
An animal rights group, PETA India, filed a complaint with the police.
The police have started an investigation and might add more charges to ensure the man gets the strictest punishment.
PETA India also wants the law to have harsher punishments for people who hurt animals, as they believe such people might harm humans too.
The current law only has a small fine for first-time offenders.
A man and an unidentified person allegedly beat a stray dog, causing its death six days later.
The incident occurred on November 21 after the stray dog fought with the accused's pet dog.
PETA India lodged a complaint on November 28, leading to the filing of an FIR under Section 325 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
PETA India requested additional charges under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act, 1960, to ensure maximum penalty.
The organization also called for stronger penalties under the PCA Act, citing the current maximum fine of Rs 50 for first-time offenders as insufficient.
