India Launches DIGIPIN: A New Digital Address System
Imagine a super-accurate address for every place in India!
That's what DIGIPIN is.
It's like a unique code for a specific spot, about the size of a small room.
The government made it with help from smart people at IIT and ISRO.
You can find your DIGIPIN on a website, and it helps delivery people, police, and ambulances find places faster.
It doesn't store your personal info and is built on top of the older PIN codes that were created a long time ago.
DIGIPIN is a new digital address system launched by the Indian government.
It is a ten-character alphanumeric code for precise location identification.
The Department of Posts developed DIGIPIN in collaboration with IIT Hyderabad and NRSC.
DIGIPIN is open-source, interoperable, and privacy-focused, not replacing the existing PIN system.
The government also launched a 'Know Your PINCODE' web application, aligning with the National Geospatial Policy 2022.
