Opa Barrage Gate Partially Opened Due to Heavy Rainfall
Heavy rain caused the Opa weir to fill up.
The water level of the river went up so the WRD had to open the barrage gate.
Now the gate is only partially open.
The water supplies most of Ponda and Tiswadi areas.
The overflow was delayed by a couple of days compared to the previous year.
The WRD is also pumping water from old mining pits into the river to prevent the pit walls from breaking.
The Opa weir began to overflow due to three days of heavy rain.
The Khandepar river's water level at the Opa barrage reached 5m.
The Water Resources Department (WRD) partially opened a gate to release excess water.
The Opa Water Works facility has five water treatment plants supplying water to Ponda and Tiswadi talukas.
Water is being pumped from abandoned mining pits into the river to prevent wall breaches.
