Report Accusing India of China Transshipment Lacks Proof

The White House published a report about goods from China allegedly being sent through other countries before reaching the United States.

India was included on a list of more than 40 countries.

A magazine article says the report does not show clear evidence that India helped commit fraud.

It does not name an Indian company or identify a specific shipment.

Goods moving through another country are not automatically involved in wrongdoing.

Fraud would require falsely claiming where the goods were made to avoid tariffs.

India said it would study the report carefully.

It also said that violations of customs and export rules would be handled under Indian law.
