India Tightens FCRA Rules: Restrictions on NGO News Content
The Indian government has updated the rules for NGOs that receive money from other countries.
If an NGO wants to get permission to receive money, it must follow new rules.
NGOs that publish things can't make or share news content and must show proof of this.
Also, NGOs have to provide detailed financial records, and those getting donations from abroad need a letter from the donor saying how much they'll give and what the money will be used for.
New FCRA rules restrict NGOs with publication activities from producing news content.
NGOs seeking registration must submit detailed financial statements and audit reports.
Those with publication aims need a certificate confirming they are not a newspaper.
NGOs must provide a commitment letter from donors for foreign contributions.
Foreign funds must be used only for the stated purposes.
