Analyst urges Bangladesh to protect rights and political inclusion

A political analyst says Bangladesh’s leaders must protect everyone, including people who disagree with them.

He says prisoners should receive medical care and courts should use evidence.

He criticized the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus for failing to prevent arbitrary detention.

He cited a report saying hundreds of people connected to the former Awami League government were still jailed without charges.

The report also mentioned concerns about deaths in custody and a lack of medical treatment.

The analyst said crimes from the 1971 Liberation War should be investigated and tried fairly.

He noted that Jamaat-e-Islami was allowed to return to electoral politics after its registration was restored in 2025.

He argued that Bangladesh should also make room for Awami League voters and peaceful political opposition.
