Supreme Court Lets Congress Candidate Contest Nandigram Bypoll

Milan Pradhan is the Congress candidate in a by-election in Nandigram.

The Supreme Court said he can take part in Tuesday’s election.

Pradhan had received bail from the Calcutta High Court in a case about a murder in 2007.

The Bengal government asked the Supreme Court to challenge that bail.

The Supreme Court did not stop the bail before the election.

It said the election should finish peacefully.

The court will hear the government’s appeal again on October 7, 2026.

One judge stepped aside because he had previously appeared as a lawyer for one of the parties.
