IMD forecasts rain and thunderstorms across south Bengal

Rain and thunderstorms reached Kolkata and other parts of south Bengal on Friday.

The weather agency expects more rain and strong winds in the region until September 20.

Winds may reach speeds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour.

A low-pressure area may develop over the north Andaman Sea on Saturday.

It may then move toward the coasts of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.

Kolkata was expected to have cloudy skies and one or two rain spells through Saturday morning.

Some places in north Bengal could receive heavy rain.

Earlier heavy rain caused waterlogging and traffic problems near Salt Lake.
