Bolsonaro Family Surges as Flavio Advances in Brazil Election

Brazil held the first round of its presidential election.

Senator Flavio Bolsonaro did better than many expected and will face President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in a runoff.

Flavio is the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, who is under house arrest while serving a prison sentence.

Jair Bolsonaro could not campaign in public, but he endorsed his son.

Several other members of the Bolsonaro family also won seats in Congress.

Their Liberal Party gained many seats in the Senate.

The report says Lula received 47% of the vote and Flavio received 45%.

Lula will need support from many people who voted for other conservative candidates to win the runoff.
