NASA Finds Gas Giant Near Earth, Potential Moons for Life
Imagine there's a giant planet, like Jupiter or Saturn, in a star system very close to Earth, called Alpha Centauri.
Scientists think they might have found it!
This planet is made of gas and is probably not a place where life could exist.
However, it might have moons, like Jupiter and Saturn do, that could have water and maybe even living things.
The scientists are using super-powerful telescopes to look at this planet.
They saw it once, but it disappeared.
They plan to look again with even better tools, hoping to find it and learn more about it, to see if those moons could be a home for life.
Scientists have found strong evidence of a giant gas planet in Alpha Centauri, the closest star system to Earth.
The planet is approximately four-and-a-half light years away from Earth.
The planet itself is likely lifeless, but could have icy moons potentially capable of supporting life.
The James Webb Space Telescope made the initial discovery, but the planet has yet to be definitively confirmed.
Future observations using the Grace Roman Space Telescope and James Webb will attempt to confirm the planet's existence and characteristics.
