Indian Railways Increases Car Dispatch Share to 20%
Indian Railways is now transporting more cars than ever!
They've increased the number of cars they ship to over 20% of all cars made in India, up from a tiny amount a few years ago.
This helps the environment by reducing pollution and also makes money for the railways.
They've made it easier for car companies, like Maruti Suzuki, to ship cars by train, like getting rid of a fee and changing how many train cars they need.
This means more cars are traveling by train instead of trucks.
Maruti Suzuki uses the railway the most, followed by other car companies.
Indian Railways increased its share of passenger vehicle dispatches to over 20% of total car production in 2024-25.
This is a significant increase from 1.7% in 2014-15, opening new revenue streams and supporting net-zero emissions targets.
The government inaugurated the largest automobile Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal at Maruti Suzuki's facility in Manesar, Haryana.
Key policy changes, like removing registration fees and relaxing rake requirements, encourage car manufacturers to use railways.
Maruti Suzuki accounts for nearly 50% of railway car transport, followed by Hyundai, Tata Motors, and Mahindra Group.
