DoCA Mandates Retail Price on All Pan Masala Packs
The Department of Consumer Affairs in India has decided that all pan masala packs, no matter their size, must show the retail price on their labels starting from February 1, 2026.
Before this, small packs of 10 grams or less did not have to show the price.
The new rule is to help consumers know the price clearly and to make sure the government can collect the right taxes.
This change will make it easier for people to buy pan masala knowing the exact price and will help the government enforce tax rules better.
DoCA mandates retail price display on all pan masala packs from February 1, 2026.
Small packs of 10 gm or less were previously exempt from mandatory RSP declaration.
All pan masala packages must now display every declaration required under the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011.
The amendment aims to strengthen consumer protection and facilitate effective GST levy.
The change will ensure seamless enforcement of GST Council decisions and proper tax assessment.
