Madras HC Grants Bail to DMK MLA Markandayan
The Madras High Court said that a DMK member named G V Markandayan can stay free for now.
He must go to the police in Tuticorin every day for two weeks, except when the state assembly meets.
He also promised not to say bad things about the chief minister again.
Markandayan was arrested on July 20 after someone complained about his words.
He says the police didn’t follow the rules that the Supreme Court says must be followed when arresting someone.
Madras High Court granted conditional bail to DMK MLA G V Markandayan.
Bail conditions include daily appearance before Tuticorin police for two weeks, except assembly days, and an undertaking not to repeat remarks.
Markandayan was arrested on July 20 after a complaint by S Balasubramanian.
He was charged with offences punishable up to seven years.
He argued police failed to issue a notice under section 35(3) of the BNS, violating Supreme Court guidelines.
