Thane Inspects 1,183 Vehicles in Marathi Language Drive

The Maharashtra government wants certain commercial drivers to know Marathi.

These drivers include auto-rickshaw, taxi, app-based, and tourist-vehicle drivers.

Officials in Thane checked vehicles for three days.

They inspected 1,183 vehicles in total.

They gave notices to 89 drivers who did not know Marathi.

The government says Marathi can help drivers communicate with passengers.

Officials also said it can help drivers connect with life in Maharashtra.

Marathi-learning classes have been arranged to help drivers learn the language.
