Rare Bactrian Camels to Debut at 2026 Republic Day Parade
Next year's Republic Day Parade in India will have something special: two rare double-humped Bactrian camels from Ladakh.
These camels are very strong and can carry heavy loads in the cold, high places near the border.
They will lead a group of animals, including ponies, birds, and dogs, in the parade.
The camels were added to the Indian Army in 2024 and help with important tasks like carrying supplies and patrolling.
This is the first time such a big animal group will be in the parade, showing how important animals are in the military.
The parade will also feature special Indian dog breeds that help in tasks like finding explosives and rescuing people.
It's a big deal because it shows India's own strong animal breeds and their important roles.
Two rare double-humped Bactrian camels from Ladakh will debut at the 2026 Republic Day Parade.
The camels, inducted into the Indian Army in 2024, are adapted to extreme cold and high-altitude conditions.
They can carry up to 250 kilograms and are used for last-mile logistics and patrols near the Line of Actual Control.
The animal contingent will also include Zanskar ponies, raptors, and military working dogs, including indigenous Indian breeds.
This is the first time such a diverse animal group will be featured in the Republic Day Parade, highlighting India's military heritage and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
