Madras University row over corpus fund use
There's a big argument happening at the University of Madras.
The university's leaders decided to use some of its special savings money to pay retired workers.
But a group called SPCSS-TN is very upset about this.
They say the university shouldn't use this money because it might make school fees go up a lot.
They're worried that the university will stop being a place that helps everyone and will only help people who can pay a lot of money.
The group also thinks this is part of a bigger plan from the government's new education rules.
They want people to know about this and are planning to talk to everyone about it.
The University of Madras' Special Syndicate decided to use the university's corpus fund to pay retirement benefits.
SPCSS-TN alleges this decision is a 'betrayal of trust' and threatens the university's public-funded character.
The group warns that this could lead to fee increases and transform the university into a commercial entity.
They link the decision to the National Education Policy 2020, fearing it will push the university towards a 'pay and study' model.
SPCSS-TN plans to engage the public to raise awareness about the issue and protect public-funded institutions.
