India's Retail Investors Return as IPO Listings Revive Market Interest

India’s IPO market had a quiet start in 2026.

Retail investors subscribed only 7.5 times on average to the first 20 IPOs.

Later, the next 42 IPOs attracted about 30 times as many subscriptions on average.

This change happened partly because recent IPOs performed better when they first appeared on the stock market.

Early IPOs averaged a 1.3% listing gain, while later ones averaged a 19% gain.

Tempsens Instruments even doubled on its first trading day.

Smaller companies also benefited as the Nifty Smallcap Index rose 9% since June.

More IPOs are expected, including Jio Platforms and NSE.
