Odisha Raises Allowance for Traditional Artistes
The Odisha government has increased the monthly allowance for traditional art performers, including those who perform 'Pala' plays.
The new allowance is Rs 3,000 per month for performers aged between 40 and 80 years, and Rs 3,500 for those above 80 years.
This change benefits around 47,704 artistes across the state.
The Chief Minister, Mohan Charan Majhi, announced this during the 48th State-level 'Pala' conference in Keonjhar.
The increase is meant to support and honor the artistes who help preserve Odisha's rich cultural heritage.
'Pala' is a traditional Odia folk art that includes storytelling, music, dance, and drama, often based on Hindu epics like the Mahabharata and Ramayana.
The government has been using 'Pala' to spread social messages and health awareness since the early 90s.
