Farmers Urge Land Reconversion Before Re-Registration
Farmers in the Kakinada Special Economic Zone (KSEZ) want their lands to be changed back to agricultural use before they can register them again.
The government took their land in 2006 and changed it from farmland to non-farmland.
Now, the government is giving back some of this land, but the farmers say it needs to be farmland again first.
The officials are not sure who can make this change or how to do it.
Some land was changed back before, but there are problems with the computer system that is supposed to help with the registration.
The farmers and officials need to figure out how to solve this issue.
Farmers urge the state government to reconvert 305 acres of land from non-agricultural to agricultural status before re-registration.
KSEZ officials have requested the revenue department to restore the land classification to agricultural to facilitate re-registration.
The government order GO-Ms-12, issued in 2021, initiated the process to return 2,180 acres to landowners who had not accepted compensation.
Revenue department sources indicate a lack of clarity on the authority and procedure for reconverting the land.
Technical limitations in the registration software are preventing the lands from being registered as agricultural.
