Liquor Cases Make Up 33% of Madhya Pradesh Crimes

Madhya Pradesh recorded fewer total crimes over the past three years.

However, liquor-related cases still made up a large share of all reported crimes.

These cases included selling, transporting or drinking illegal liquor, as well as drunk driving and roadside drinking.

More than 32 people died recently after drinking poisonous liquor in Sagar district.

In 2025, police registered more than 80,000 cases linked to the Excise Act.

The state says falling crime numbers show that law and order is improving.

Critics say the large number of liquor cases shows that illegal liquor remains a serious problem.

Courts and lawmakers have introduced severe punishments for liquor offences that cause deaths.
