Cheetah cub killed in highway collision
A young cheetah cub that had wandered away from Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh was sadly hit by a car on a busy highway.
The cub was about 20 months old and had gotten separated from its mother, Gamini, who was brought from South Africa to help bring cheetahs back to India.
Police are looking into the accident and think they know which car might have hit the cub.
They are also being careful to prevent another accident because another cub from the same family might still be nearby.
The cub that died was one of four born to Gamini in March this year.
This is the second cheetah death from Kuno in three days.
Since 2023, at least 17 cheetahs have died.
A 20-month-old male cheetah cub was killed after being hit by a vehicle on the Agra-Mumbai National Highway in Madhya Pradesh.
The cub had strayed from Kuno National Park and became separated from its mother, Gamini, a cheetah imported from South Africa.
Police are investigating the incident and have detained the vehicle involved in the accident in Rajasthan’s Kota district.
Authorities have reduced traffic and lowered speed limits on the highway to prevent another accident, as another male cub from the same litter might still be around.
The dead cub was one of four born to Gamini in March, who were released in the Khajuri forest area of Kuno National Park.
