Assam Information Commission Advises APSC to Retain Candidate Education Records
Imagine the people who run big job exams in Assam, called APSC, are being asked to keep better records.
A person named Kailash wanted to know where the successful candidates went to school (like if it was a CBSE or SEBA school) and what language they studied in.
APSC initially said they didn't have this information.
But, after looking at an old application form that asked for this, the Information Commission said APSC should start keeping these details.
They also said that if it takes a lot of work to find out the study language, APSC needs to figure out how to answer.
The Information Commission wants APSC to be more open about the backgrounds of the people who take their exams.
Assam Information Commission advised APSC to maintain records of candidates' educational background and medium of study.
The advice was given in response to a petition filed by Kailash Chandra Sarma regarding the APSC (CCE) Main Examination, 2022.
The petitioner sought information on candidates' schooling under CBSE/SEBA and the vernacular medium from SEBA.
APSC initially stated that details on CBSE/SEBA schooling and vernacular medium were not in their records.
The Commission directed APSC to provide an appropriate reply as per the RTI Act, 2005, and to keep such records in the future.
