Mont Saint-Michel: France’s Tiny UNESCO Island and Gothic Abbey

Mont Saint-Michel: France’s Tiny UNESCO Island and Gothic Abbey

Mont Saint-Michel is a very small island in France.

Only 23 people live there.

It has an enormous old abbey that dates back to the 8th century.

People believe the abbey was inspired by a vision of the Archangel Michael.

Its buildings use both Romanesque and Gothic styles.

When the tide is high, water surrounds the island.

When the tide is low, large areas of sand appear.

Visitors can walk along the stone walls and the medieval Grand Rue.

They can also try the island’s famous fluffy omelettes cooked over wood fires.
