IndiGo Ordered to Pay Rs 55,000 After Liquor Bottle Breaks
A man named Vineeth was traveling from Delhi to Chennai on an IndiGo flight.
He had a fancy liquor bottle that he told the airline it was fragile and packed it carefully.
When he got his luggage in Chennai, the bottle was broken into pieces.
He told the airline it was broken because they were careless, but the airline only offered a small voucher.
The Hyderabad consumer commission looked at the case and said the airline was wrong.
They said the airline should pay him the full value of the bottle, plus extra money for the trouble he had.
The airline had to pay him Rs 55,000.
This shows that airlines must be careful with fragile items they accept from passengers.
Hyderabad consumer commission ruled IndiGo Airlines liable for a shattered premium liquor bottle.
Passenger Vineeth Maddala claimed the Rs 35,000 bottle was declared and packed safely but broke upon arrival in Chennai.
IndiGo offered only a Rs 500 voucher, which the commission deemed an unfair contract.
The commission ordered IndiGo to pay Rs 35,000 plus interest, Rs 15,000 for mental anguish, and Rs 5,000 for complaint costs.
The case highlights airlines’ heightened duty of care for declared fragile items.
