Karnataka Commission Advises Fixed Timeframe for Welfare Schemes
The Karnataka Administrative Reforms Commission has suggested that the government should not start new welfare schemes for an indefinite period.
Instead, they should set a fixed timeframe of 3 to 5 years for each scheme.
This is to make sure that the schemes have clear goals and are properly evaluated.
The commission also recommended that when a new scheme is started, an old one should be stopped to avoid overstretching the state's resources.
They also suggested evaluating all ongoing schemes during the budget process to discontinue or merge those that are not performing well.
The commission has made many other recommendations to improve the efficiency of government operations.
The Karnataka Administrative Reforms Commission II recommended a fixed timeframe of 3 to 5 years for new welfare schemes.
The government should adopt a one-in, one-out framework to avoid overstretching resources.
New schemes should have clear, measurable targets and be implemented in mission mode.
Ongoing schemes should be evaluated annually, and low-impact schemes may be discontinued or merged.
The commission also recommended redeploying surplus staff and optimizing outsourcing practices.
