Canada Updates Medical Exam Rules for Temporary Resident Applicants
Canada is changing the rules for people who want to come to Canada for a visit or to work for more than 6 months.
Starting November 3, 2025, people from certain countries will need to have a special doctor's check-up called an immigration medical exam (IME) before they come.
Some countries have been added to this list, like Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
Other countries have been taken off the list, so people from places like Taiwan or Latvia won't need the exam anymore.
If you are already in Canada and have had a check-up in the last 5 years that showed you are healthy, you might not need another one.
Also, people applying for a parent or grandparent super visa must have this exam.
For those applying for permanent jobs, they now have to do their medical check-up right when they apply.
Canada has updated its immigration medical examination (IME) requirements for temporary resident applicants, effective November 3, 2025.
Applicants from Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay, and Venezuela will now require an IME.
Applicants from Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iraq, Latvia, Lithuania, and Taiwan will no longer require an IME.
The temporary public policy exempting certain foreign nationals already in Canada from IMEs has been extended to October 5, 2029.
Permanent residence applicants who have completed their Express Entry profile must now submit their IME upfront, a change implemented on August 21.
