AI Boom Worsens Global Wealth Gap
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is making the gap between the rich and the poor even bigger.
A report says that billionaires are getting much richer faster than before, especially because of AI.
Big tech companies like Nvidia, Microsoft, and Amazon have invested a lot of money in AI, which has made their stocks go up.
This has made their owners, like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, even richer.
In fact, the 10 richest people in the world now have more money than the poorest half of the world's population.
This big difference in wealth can cause problems, like political inequality.
In some countries, people are protesting because they are not happy with the way things are.
The middle class, which is the group of people who are not rich but not poor either, is getting smaller.
This is especially true in India, where most people are now in the poorest half of the population.
So, while AI is making some people very rich, it is also making life harder for many others.
Billionaire wealth increased three times faster in 2025 than the average annual rate over the previous five years, coinciding with the AI-fueled stock market boom in the US.
The 'Magnificent Seven' tech giants invested over $400 billion in AI infrastructure in 2025, leading to a 27.5% gain in their stocks.
AI startups received $100 billion in venture capital funding in 2025, creating at least 50 new billionaires, with Surge AI's founder Edwin Chen becoming the newest 'AI billionaire' with a net worth of $18 billion.
The wealth of the top 10 richest people reached $2.4 trillion in 2025, surpassing the wealth of the poorest half of humanity, about 4 billion people.
The widening wealth gap can trigger political inequality, with billionaires being 4,000 times more likely to hold political office than ordinary people, and the middle class shrinking around the world, particularly in India.
