Eight-Hour Rescue Saves Man Atop 270-Foot Siliguri Tower

An unidentified man climbed to the top of a very tall tower in Siliguri.

The tower was about 270 feet high.

He sat on a single metal rod without a railing or a seat.

Rescue workers began trying to bring him down around 7 p.m.

Expert climbers, police, officials and Civil Defence workers worked together.

The rescuers used food to encourage him to climb lower.

They then secured him with a rope and placed him on a stretcher.

He was safely brought down at about 11:30 p.m.
