Odisha Social Security Officer Arrested for Digital Bribe
A government official in Odisha, who helps people with social security programs, was arrested.
He is accused of taking money, around 20,000 rupees, from a group that helps people (an NGO).
He apparently took the money using a phone payment app, which is like sending money online.
People also say he asked for money from other groups and individuals to help them get paid or get agreements.
When police looked into his finances, they found he owns several plots of land, a big house, and a farmhouse.
The police are still investigating to find out more about these payments and his properties.
A District Social Security Officer (DSSO) in Keonjhar, Odisha, was arrested by the Vigilance wing of the police.
The officer, Biplab Keshari Samantray, is accused of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.
The bribe was reportedly paid through a digital payment app by a non-government organization (NGO) functionary.
Allegations suggest the DSSO collected bribes from various NGOs and individuals for processing agreements and payments.
Investigations have uncovered significant assets, including multiple land plots, a large building, and a farmhouse, belonging to the officer and his family.
