How Much Rest Your Body Needs Between Workouts

Exercise challenges your muscles and body.

Rest gives your muscles time to repair and become stronger.

After a very hard strength workout, the same muscles may need about 48 hours before another intense session.

You can still move gently by walking or doing easy cycling while those muscles recover.

Light exercise usually needs less recovery than heavy lifting, HIIT or long endurance workouts.

Sleep and nutritious food also help your body recover.

Soreness can be normal, but sharp pain, swelling or serious weakness should not be ignored.

If you feel tired for a long time or your performance keeps getting worse, taking more rest may help.
