Nandyal Collector Orders Strict Water Management Amid Severe Drought
Nandyal is facing a serious shortage of water.
The Collector said drinking water for people and animals must come first.
Water releases will also help refill groundwater and recharge borewells.
Farmers are being asked not to use this water for irrigation.
Officials must save every drop of water available.
They will work to fill ponds, water bodies, and 13 summer storage tanks.
Teams from several departments will watch for unauthorized water use.
Officials were told to explain the drought politely and ask farmers for their cooperation.
District Collector G Rajakumari ordered officials to reserve available water for people and livestock.
Officials were told to prevent unauthorized diversion of water for agricultural irrigation.
The Collector attributed depleted resources to deficient rainfall, high temperatures, and Super El Niño.
Nandyal’s approximately 14 lakh livestock must receive adequate drinking water, she said.
Joint teams will monitor ponds, water bodies, storage tanks, flow channels, and sluices.
