IAF Wing Commander Arrested for Allegedly Leaking Defence Information

IAF Wing Commander Arrested for Allegedly Leaking Defence Information

The Indian Air Force is the part of India's military that protects the country, and it keeps secret information about defence.

A Wing Commander is a senior officer in the Air Force.

About two months ago, Delhi Police arrested a Wing Commander because they say he shared secret defence information.

He has been charged under the Official Secrets Act, a law that protects government secrets.

Police say the officer met a woman on social media while he was going through a hard time in his personal life.

The woman talked to him through chats and video calls and gradually gained his trust.

Police believe she tricked him into sharing secret details about troop movements and military information, which is called a 'honey trap'.

They think the woman was acting on the instructions of people based in Pakistan.

Police also say he was asked to install a spying app on a colleague's phone so data could be stolen.

The officer is now in jail at Tihar Jail while the police continue their investigation, and the Indian Air Force says it has zero tolerance for this kind of activity.
