Cow Urine Becomes Rural Business Opportunity in Uttar Pradesh
Cow urine is the liquid waste that cows make.
In some villages in India, people are now buying it instead of throwing it away.
Farmers can sell cow urine for 10 rupees per litre.
The urine is mixed with plants called herbs to make a special mixture.
Farmers are told this mixture can help their crops grow without chemicals.
This gives cow owners extra money besides selling milk.
Women in the villages help collect the urine and get paid for their work.
About 300 women are part of this project.
The project started in 15 villages and might grow bigger.
If it works well, more people may be able to earn money from cow urine in the future.
A pilot project in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, is buying cow urine from farmers and cattle owners at Rs 10 a litre.
The initiative operates across 15 villages in the Siyana area, collecting about 500 litres of cow urine daily.
Collected urine is mixed with herbs to make agricultural products promoted as chemical-free alternatives for farming.
Around 300 women have joined as shareholders and earn a commission of Rs 2 per litre for collecting cow urine.
Organizers may raise the procurement price to Rs 20 a litre as the network expands, and the model could spread across the state.
