China Silver Fund Drops 10% After Manager Warnings
China's only silver fund, the UBS SDIC Silver Futures Fund, dropped by 10% in one day.
This happened after the fund's manager warned that the big gains were not sustainable.
The fund had been going up a lot because more people are interested in silver and other precious metals.
The manager also made it harder for people to invest in the fund by lowering the subscription limit.
Silver prices have been going up a lot this year, reaching a record high.
The fund's value is much higher than the value of the silver it owns, which could lead to big losses if silver prices go down.
China's UBS SDIC Silver Futures Fund LOF plunged 10% on Thursday, its maximum daily limit.
The fund had gained nearly 220% this year, fueled by rising global interest in precious metals.
Spot silver hit a record high of $72.70 an ounce on Wednesday.
The fund manager tightened subscription rules, limiting Class C shares to 100 yuan from Dec. 26.
The fund's premium over its underlying assets stood at nearly 62%, up from 7% at the start of the month.
